Baltimore Orioles Ticket - Sports News & Rumors
Do We Want Jim Edmonds?

It's a new day, and it seems like the Orioles are once again sticking to the low-cost veteran signings to bridge the gap between the youth on the farm and the major league team. According to Ken Rosenthal, the organization has some interest in veteran Jim Edmonds.

Although, I more or less have some aversion to acquiring guys on the wrong side of thirty -- however, I will make an exception on this one, if we can get him.

It looked like Edmonds' start to 2008 indicated that he was on his last legs as an everyday player; however, once he joined the Cubs, he looked like another man.

From Fox Sports: The Orioles have shown interest in signing Edmonds to play first base. Edmonds also would make sense in a center-field platoon with Ryan Spilborghs in Colorado, but the Rockies are probably out of money after acquiring right-hander Jason Marquis. Edmonds, 38, is 18 homers short of 400.

I would think that Baltimore would want a right-handed bat and someone younger, but Edmonds was still productive in 2008. Although his best days in the outfield may be over, he might be an option at first base (I have not seen him play first much). We do know this -- the man will hustle, give his full effort and be an example of professionalism on and off the field.

I say do it, if the price is right and if it's a one year stop-gap.

It would be one of the better things to happen to the Orioles to get Edmonds. I'll be a season ticket holder if that happens.
