OriolesREACH & Adam Jones make $75,000 donation to Brooklyn O'Malley Boys and Girls Club in Baltimore
Hundreds of youth from the Brooklyn O’Malley Boys and Girls Club and members of their community will have access to the latest technology thanks to a $75,000 donation from OriolesREACH and Boys and Girls Club alumnus ADAM JONES designated to renovate and expand a Technology and Learning Center within the Club’s facility at 3560 3rd Street. When complete, the renovation will enhance the Club’s ability to provide educational support, computer skill development and career enrichment, college preparatory and STEM (Science/Technology/Engineering/Math) programs to these at-risk and underserved members. The new Technology and Learning Center will also be utilized by community members for employment search, financial literacy, GED and career and educational support.
“The importance of education cannot be overstated in the development of successful members of society,” said Orioles Vice President of Communications and Marketing GREG BADER. “With the help of this donation from OriolesREACH and Adam Jones, over 200 youth from the Brooklyn O’Malley Boys and Girls Club, along with members of their community, will be able to utilize the latest technology to achieve their educational and career goals.”
Jones, who was a member of the Encanto Boys and Girls Club as a youth in San Diego, has been an active supporter of the Metropolitan Baltimore Boys and Girls Clubs throughout his time with the Orioles. ”As a kid, the Boys and Girls Club had a big impact on my life,” Jones said. “This donation is intended to help many kids like me have a better opportunity to succeed.”
In a pr-game ceremony tonight, Thursday, June 13, Jones will present a $75,000 check to Boys and Girls Clubs of Metropolitan Baltimore CEO KEN DARDEN. The Orioles will also host 50 youth from the Brooklyn O’Malley Boys and Girls Club for tonight’s game against the Boston Red Sox.
Construction on the new Technology and Learning Center will begin soon, with Jones and other Orioles staff, Orioles wives and Boys and Girls Club members assisting with the renovations. The Brooklyn O’Malley Boys and Girls Club will also partner with institutions of higher learning, local libraries, corporate partners and Baltimore City Public Schools to recruit adult participants as volunteers and mentors for the Technology and Learning Center.
Once the project is complete, Jones will join members of the Club for an official ribbon-cutting ceremony to open the new Center. The Orioles are also donating a player-used, autographed and authenticated regulation size ping-pong table to the Club.
