Baltimore sputtered out of the gate in their first game of the second half of the 2009 season and in the end, they lost to the Chicago White Sox, 12-8. Slugger Jim Thome continued to move up the home run list as he had a career day along demolished the Orioles with a three-run homer in the fifth, and a grand slam in the sixth inning. In the end, he would be the offensive star as he drove in seven runs on the night.

The pitching on the night was just horrible, and Chicago made Baltimore pay for it.

First, the good news-- the Birds’ bats returned with a vengeance, as six different hitters enjoyed multi-hit games, and Nick Markakis and Adam Jones snapped their homerun droughts with a round-tripper each. The bad news, unfortunately, is that the O’s pitching staff completely imploded, with Jason Berken (pic) getting pasted for six runs while three relievers were tagged for two apiece.
